Entering Utah through Zion (National Park)

On our way up to the Salt Lake area, we drove through Zion National Park. It was magnificent.

Look at our goofy family! You can't see Serena because she is in the backpack below the picture. This was a short family hike we went on. We would have liked to go on more hikes because you get to see some cool rock formations, but we just couldn't with our little tired family. The boys couldn't believe they could see snow in June.

It was another long day of traveling. We arrived in Salt Lake around 1 am. Thank goodness for afternoon church! And thank goodness for a day of rest at Aunt Annette's house with Mom Brandt. Unfortunetely Annette couldn't be there most of the time that we were because she is a paralegal and was involved in a major court case in Provo. She had to stay in her hotel room down there and work all hours of the day and night.

This was Sunday morning when we got to see Nanny. This is the first time she got to see Serena.
This is Hoss-Annette's parrot. She likes boys, especially Mike, and didn't want to get off his shoulder. I don't know, should I be jealous? I don't have pretty feathers like that! She also has a pretty singing voice.
Monday June 16th Monday we spent around the house taking care of laundry, groceries, setting up plans, etc. But after dinner we went to a small water park for the kids. Hayden had a lot of fun, Connor wasn't so adventurous.

I got a great pose from him though!

He didn't even like going to down this little whale. I think part of the problem was that the water was pretty cold.

Hayden loved this and an inflatable slip-and-slide. That was my favorite.

This one was Mike's favorite.

Tuesday June 17th

Tuesday was a fun-filled day. We started a tradition of eating breakfast on the patio each morning. It was nice and cool with the dry air. After the boys finished, they got to jump on the tramp until it was time to go.

We packed a lunch and drove down to Provo. We showed Hayden our old apartment we lived in when he was born and our church that was 1/2 a block away. Then the boys went to the park that Mike and I always went to while us girls went to my famous scrapbook store-Pebbles in My Pocket, which is just a block in front of our old apartment. It is just a small house converted into a store, but they are so popular that we sell some of their products here in PA at A.C. Moore.

Pebbles in My Pocket Then it was time to drive up to Bridal Veil Falls and have our picnic lunch.

After that stop we drove further up the canyon and onto the River Loop to a place called Cascade Springs. By then it was pretty hot and getting late in the afternoon, so we drove down the other side of the mountain to Heber where we got some famous thick shakes at Granny's.

Weds. June 18th

While I went to visit with an old college roommate, Hayden and Daddy hiked up Mt. Timpanogas to the cave. The hike is 1 1/2 miles one-way and the trail is too rough for strollers, so we decided to split up for part of the day. It worked out well because Mike would have been bored to tears listening to Jessa and I yammer. We used to stay up all night talking, and things haven't changed much! It's great to visit with an old friend and see how you have both changed by becoming wives and mothers, and yet it's like the friendship has stayed the same. (Mike had the camera with him so I didn't get pictures today, but I will in a few days when I come back to visit.)

Hayden and Daddy had a blast! And Hayden was so proud of himself making that 3 mile hike. He loved seeing the cave, and he even got to walk through an arch that he wanted to see so badly in Utah! (Okay, it's not THE arch, but we couldn't drive another 6 hours to go see it. Maybe next trip.)

To the left of this picture is the trail. Pretty streep drop-off!

Hayden's arch

After driving back to Salt Lake to have dinner with Nanny, I drove back down to Jessa's and went with her to her book club since I missed mine in PA! They talked about The Glass Castle which I would like to read. It was interesting to attend hers and see what things are different and what things are the same. Jessa and I were exchanging books that we have read that would be good suggestions for book club. Of course she has some really nice friends and I had a great time. Thanks Jessa!

The next day we went to Temple Suare which I already blogged about, so a new entry will pick up on Fri. June 20th.
